warn has a new winch called Axon that has the contactor built in. That sounds so much easier to install. i may just sell my warn i removed from the rhino that i planned to put on the Viking. anyone try the new warn yet? https://www.warn.com/axon-winch

I have owned over 4 new winches and the water got to the two non warn brands . I prefer to stay with something I know that will work. as far as taking chances on one more brand I prefer not to. maybe in texas you don't get the rain like I do . my 2016 Polaris came stock with winch and that didn't leak but turned on by itself at random . are you related to the moderator?

I am a country boy ..... had winches all my life and had Two go out on me and BOTH were Warn ..... and I loaned another popular brand winch out and he broke it beyond repair.
I don't waste money on Warn winches, or Bose speakers.
I have a $180 4500 Tractor supply winch now and it has run every time I needed it for 4-5 years. (a little slower than Warn, but A LOT cheaper)
YES, we have water in Texas ..... LOTS of it right now LOL .... we are under flood warning ......
My Rhino is snorkeled and it is needed almost every ride.

The Warn on my 2004 Rhino had water intrusion that corroded everything. Replacement parts were expensive (if you could find them) so I bought another. Same story. When I called Warn they asked if I had ever had the winch under water (!?). I said of course, it's a freakin' ATV! I also said that I rarely go underwater and never for any amount of time. They said when you submerge the winch you should run the line out and back in to warm up the winch and drive out moisture. What?! Anyway, I bought a cheap lookalike and it works just fine.

i'll just continue this one for my bumper pictures.
I got the tough country bumper from texas because it had the winch mount up high and came with a receiver. shipping was free if I bought from cabelas.

all wrapped upon a pallet it was 130lbs. bumper itself by my scale weighs is 79 that is 61lbs more that the stock one I removed. I only drove a short distance but the extra weight isn't noticeable. a warn axon 4500lb pull will set on it. I get a large elk almost every year and need the pulling power.

some pictures. if your thinking about getting one of the bumpers contact me first for some tips on mounting.

on pallet

lots of room on top.

this is the old bumper look for comparison.

as you see the axon 45 s is on. warn decided not to include a fairlead with the winch .so I built one . the rocker switch is more like a button switch and the hand controller the same. both look very waterproof. the one led shows pulling capacity. it changes color and after yellow orange and red it trips out. reset is easy But I haven't tested it and may not. contactor is built in the winch and makes it easy with just the two heavy #6 power leads. they are way to long for the Viking and I could shorten them later.
I did a 500lb pull with the synthetic and got it to shrink or tighten up and it now fits the winch drum better. that was all the pulling I have done so far. I plan on ditching the red flag on the hook. I think it looks bad.
the winch plug in could have been more centered on the dash.if your on that side in a ditch it could be hard to get to.

the axon winch is performing well on my setup. I don't do any mud that I don't have to . I just pulled a couple fir logs at close to winch stalling with no problem.the led winch high temp light on the control button never came on. it was short pulls. I been crossing a 21" pond but it hasn't been submerged but a wave of clean water cover it many times.
