I have a 2007 660. i have a machined sheave with grease less rollers. I also run a purple spring. My belt shredded at the dunes and then caught fire ruining everything in the sheave. My problem is i cant get the primary fixed sheave of the clutch shaft. Anyone have this happen and how did you get it off???? it looks as though the shaft spun and ground off the teeth of the sheave making a grove in the shaft teeth at the same time...

Ric, I think you're right, it does look like the inner sheave "spun" on the splines... Gear puller, if you have one big enough and with small enough arms to fit around it. Try not to use an impact on the puller if you can avoid it. If not, that inner is screwed anyways, drill holes in (don't let the drill get away from you! Don't want to hit what's on the other side..), tap the holes, and jerry rig a puller using thread stock (ready rod, whatever..). I think you get where I'm going with this...

its a lil heat welded on get a pry bar and pop her off, !

also if u have a lil torch heat up the shaft and sheave that will help loosen her

ric was that the original belt or how old was it ?
Frank, you DON'T want to heat the shaft ;)

Bit I don't mind your idea of tack welding something (ie. a puller) to the inner sheave.

yep...he can't hurt any of those parts....they are roached....you will need a new wet clutch drum...it has the shaft on it that you are looking at...pry,beat,pry that sheve off....remove the plastic inner cover....and then back to that shaft there is a sqarish 8 bolt alloy cover for your wet clutch...drain oil and romove that cover...and now you have that shaft in hand and the wet clutch drum on the other side...they are one part....pop the seal out...and behind that is a E clip...remove that and the shaft will pull out of alloy cover....so you need wet clutch drum, roller bearing, new seal, alloy cover gaskit, primary and secondary clutches and belt and oil...and then ask " what made it do that "...why so hot?

thanks everyone... im going to try and grind the splines off the shaft and pull on it some more.

Frank. Only the 8th ride on the belt...although its been 2 years since i installed it.

As to why so hot??...no idea right now. i need to take more of it apart to investigate. I was running it really hard at the dunes though. never a problem before and i ran it just as hard.

I broke down in the middle of the road to olds and only one person stopped to help us. i bet 50 People had to going around us to get by and all they did was look. New type of duners i guess.

Looks like the same thing that happened to me recently, i think the splines on the inner sheeve went(i could hear a little noise, but tried limping it back on a dirt road). I was thinking since those splines went, the inner sheeve and outer sheeve wouldn't turn at the same time anymore and the heat built up till it wodded up?

The 2 sheeves on mine rubbed against eachother bad and my greasless rollers were melted to the outside of the sheeve......:gay:

If you don't mind, what weights were you using and what different performance did you get from the purple spring.?

Doghouse...not sure on the weights. I got the duner kit from UTV inc as a set it it worked great for about 8 camping trips.

Thats why I like to dune with other people I know. I've seen it a lot lately. When I see someone broke down, I usually give them the thumbs up. If they give me the thumbs up back, I keep going. If they don't, I stop to see if they need help.
