I have a 2006 yamaha rhino 660 and my middle gear went out. Is there any way of changing it without splitting the motor in half if nothing else is broken?
if you're talking about the actual middle gear you have to split the case, if you're talking about the output shaft gear which is driven by the middle gear you can change it from the back without splitting the case but they mostly kill themselves together,if your shaft gear was hurt then so is your middle gear and all you did was put a bandaid on a gunshot wound, all the damage is done and all the chips and grindings are in your motor polishing your internals waiting to get sucked into something critical, so cross your fingers you're gunna have a big awakening in a while....good luck on that...you have in essence changed your ring gear without changing your pinion and haven't properly flushed the metal shavings out of the motor...timebomb,even more so than these rhino engines already are....your fuse just got shorter by a whole lot friend....kaboom, kapishe, its over, call the fight!
i changed both gears nothing was broken but the gears was eat up i took the nut off the middle gear and slid it off that was why i was asking if nothing else was broke was it ok to do it that way but i did change both gear.
