KMS vs. Trinity 686 Big Bore Kit or?

6794 Views 23 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  NAATV
I am considering installing a 686 Big Big Bore Kit onto my Rhino. The install will include a new cam, valve springs, port and polish, Piston, etc. I would like to continue using pump gas. I do have a few questions.
Which is a better Kit to install. The KMS or the Trinity or?
Do I need to upgrade my cooling system?
Is there a shop local to the Los Angeles area that can do the install?
Should I consider a 727cc kit (can I still use pump gas)?
What reliability issues will I have?
Should I install a stroker kit?
What can I expect in HP gains?

I appreciate any input, help, suggestions anyone can give.

Stick with a 686. For pump gas you want to stay 11:1 or lower. Also get a CP piston with a DLC coated wrist pin from Benchmark performance 760 484 0986. They are in Ramona...pretty close to LA. You will most likely want to upgrade your radiator also. I prefer the 3 pass alba or the 3 pass TCP

I have a whole engine ready to bolt in the Cp piston and DLC coated wrist pin, Benchmark Cnc head, +1 valves w/ Double valve springs, Benchmark crank with Corrillo rod, Upgraded middle drive gear support, Hsr 45 carb, Afe intake.

I will garrantee it will beat both the trinity and Kms kits, Oh and be reliable!

Ill even throw in the msd programmable ignition. $3500 but motivated

Than sell your engine complete and motor motor ends up costing you about $1500
I agree with sticking with the 686. Dont forget to do the diff plate. Weller racing makes one. Also replace the the rod with a stonger one that is welded on.
686, and have Benchmark performance build it, for sure. If your in AZ, Weller Racing is a good builder too.

There are a lot of cheap built motors available right now, due to all the R1 cars being built.
$3500, Motivated i just bought R1

Mine has all of this done,

Benchmark Crank W/Corrillo Rod Welded
Upgraded Diff Plate
Benchmark Head that cost $1200
Webcams camshaft
Webcam Hard welded rockers
Cp Piston
Dlc Wrist pin
Pump gas
Msd Ignition
Pdm Sport Clutch Or i could put stocker back on
Mikuni 45 carb
Afe Intake System
Kibble white +1 valves
Kibble white Double springs
Everything and anything

You can talk to Chris at Benchmark on this motor or anyone they will agree, I have reciepts from benchmark. 72mph on flat ground turning 26" bighorns

Whiplash's PRO MOD utv champion and SPORT MOD champion had our motors in them

Gringing stone PRO MOD Champion had our motor also
NAATV, as much as I would like to buy your engine, I'm short on cash right now and just saving for this next step on my rhino. My mod probably won't happen until nexy year :-( If you still have it when I get the cash that would be great! Your engine is my first choice! So it looks like I am going to go with the 686 and not the 727. Now the question is where. I have heard of two shops somewhat local to me. Benchmark in Ramona and Pro Shop in Stanton. Comments??? Any other shops to consider?

Thanks for all your help!
Looks like it's going to be Benchmark! Just gotta get my cash together and I am off to Ramona!
Thanks all for your input.

The only problem you are ging to run into is that you will have as much into a "good" top end as i am selling a complete engine for with all benchmark products. A "good" top end isnt cheap at all. Chris at Benchmark does great work and uses the best products he can buy. Down the road you will need to do your bottem end also..... Could be a week after you do your top end, or it could be a year. You never know....
How many hours and miles are on your motor since it was rebuilt??

Yes, Sorry. What is the benefit of the pmd clutch vs stock, I don't know anything about dry cluthes,

Hmmmmm hours not to sure, miles about 1150 on the case up build with new everything. On the dry clutch the biggest diff I noticed was the acceleration, it gets the power that engine makes to the ground much more efficiently than the wet clutch. You are also able to adjust it a lot more and dial it in for the engine you have

So the crank, piston and valve job work have about 1150 miles. Isn't that a lot of miles? Would it be ready for a rebuild again soon????? Now many miles or hours can these engines do??? anyone else have some input on this also.
Thanks
Let's see, the crank, rod , and piston have that many. The head, cam, rockers, valves, springs have about 150 miles on them. I would say that's low miles, but anyone can chime in. The piston has the dlc piston pin and I had special "Total seal" rings made for it also.

Why did you have to redue the top end? Is the engine in the rhino still? do you warranty the engine? How motivated are you? where are you located? pm me.
