Hi guys, I just bought a 2009, 700 with 200 hours on it and as this is my first UTV, I know zero about what to expect. My primary use is for work on a mountain ranch with steep and rugged terrain, but if I ever score a trailer, may want to ride the So Cal deserts also. Altitude is 5,000 feet.
1. Given that every vehicle comes with inherent flaws, what should I be aware of for this model?
2. What are some mandatory mods? (Came with wider rims, CDI box and upgraded suspension)
3. What type and amounts of fluids and filters do you recommend?
Congrats & welcome! keep up on reg. maint. shedules, down load on here the shop service manual for a 700, & use quality fluids, we like the Amsoil 0-w-40 for the engine. Take care of it & it will take care of you.
First off, check the oil often and change at about 200-250 miles. I use rotella T syn 5-40 I think amsoil is junk but lets not start another fire
And the first and BEST mod you can do for your money is a sheave. Call JBS he is a vendor here and his number is in my signature. it will give you wicked low end for those hills you were talking about and let you cruise at lower RPM's
Thanks again guys. Do you recommend using synthetic with such low engine time? In motorcycles we wait until 6,000 to 10,000 miles or the motor does not break-in correctly.
At 200 hrs. that you have on it i would go ahead & change it to the synthetic of your choice,, make sure it's wet clutch safe! takes about 2.3, quarts check your manual. I've noticed a quieter smoother, cooler, running engine with synthetics, my 700 had 100 hrs when we changed it over from the old yamaha lube, it now has 1900 + miles with no problems & plenty of hrs. on it so far. Napa has a quality wix oil filter also.
also change the gear oil in the frt and rear diffs regulerly. better a-arm guards on the frt. frt and rear a-arm braces and extra diff mounting bracket, utv inc has the braces and bracket. the braces add support to the frame and the braces keep the diffs in place better and help to stop the frame from breaking. the jbs sheave first though, you wont believe the improvement over stock. it will give you so much more torque on the bottom end. you might want to consider a pwr steering unit also, second best upgrade i've done. jbs sheave is first. the p/s unit i have is a unisteer, works awesome so far. took all the kickback out. its a real joy to drive now, only need 1 hand no matter what. thats all i can think of now. do the mantinence and your rhino will do what you want it to. not the fastest machine but mine has tackled everthing so far, and always gets me home.
