so i have been working this prob all day or since this weekend? i was blowing light blue smoke when i get on it hard did a compression test i was at 165 ish and i am supposed to be at 180 does n e body have a good to go by way to change the seals? i have an 08 450 thanks in advance
By seals, I assume that you mean rings. Seals have nothing to do with compression. Seals prevent oil from entering the combustion chamber by passing between the valve stems and the valve guides.
The components that affect compression are the valves, rings, cylinder, head gasket.
The Yamaha Repair Manual says that compression on the 700 should be:
55.8 psi at sea level (minimum)
64.0 psi at sea level (standard)
71.7 psi at sea level (maximum)
If your numbers for the 450 are correct, then you are only 10% low. That is acceptable. I suspect that your smoking condition near or at WOT is caused by defective valve stem seals. Replace them and I'd bet that your motor will quit smoking. I replaced my just last week.
It can be done without removing the head, but you'll need an adapter that will allow you to pressurize the cylinder to prevent the valves from dropping into the cylinder. However, I'd suggest that you remove the head, remove any carbon build up, and inspect the valves and seats and the cylinder.

cool thanks, i had to call yamaha to find out what the comp was on it. its my first time to do this as far as motor work is there a how to guide that i can get for it?? thanks
I have the 660 and 700 manuals, but I don't have the 450 manual. I'm sure that there is a link for download in the forum somewhere. Or maybe a fellow member will email it to you.
Removing the head isn't rocket science. You'll be fine. Just take your time, and have fun. I've never worked on a 450, so I don't have any specific advice to give you. But I'm sure someone here will be able to help you and point you toward a link to the 450 manual.
well its always fun!! ride it till it breaks then fix it to do it again. thanks bud im sure ill find it somewhere
