I didn't want to drop $100 on a prefab gas pedal, so I made my own. I figure that others out there would like to do the same. This is what I ordered from McMaster:
1488A13
Stainless Steel Surface-Mnt Hinge with Holes 316 SS, Polished, Nonremovable Pin, 2" H, 2" W

94674A528
18-8 SS Flush-Mount Captive Nut 10-32 Thread Size, .125" min Panel Thick, Packs of 25

7701T112
UHMW Polyethylene Strip Adhesive Back, .032" Thick, 2" Width

6970T13
Abrasive Antislip Tape 2" Width X 30' Length Roll, Black

92210A299
18-8 Stainless Steel Flat Head Sckt Cap Screw 10-32 Thread, 5/16" Length, Packs of 50

90313A104
18-8 SS Large-Diameter Flat Washer NO. 10 Screw Size, 1" OD, .03"-.05" Thick, Packs of 50

91831A411
18-8 Stainless Steel Nylon-Insert Hex Locknut 10-32 Thread Size, 3/8" Width, 15/64" Height, Packs of 100

92210A303
18-8 Stainless Steel Flat Head Sckt Cap Screw 10-32 Thread, 5/8" Length, Packs of 100

90065A243
18-8 SS Flat Head Phillips Sheet Metal Screw NO 10 Size, 5/8" Length, packs of 100

If you want to use 2 x 3/16 material sub the 5/16 screw for:
92210A301
18-8 Stainless Steel Flat Head Sckt Cap Screw 10-32 Thread, 3/8" Length, packs of 100

The only additional thing I needed was a #10 stainless sheet metal screw that I was able to get from Home Depot. I included that on the list above.

Here are the specs:
The Aluminum is 2x1/8 flat bar its 225mm long and the holes for the hinge are 25mm from the bottom. With this distance, the hinge will not be able to go past vertical, but its harder to install the screws to the floor. The holes for the press in nuts are sized F. Even though they are 3 thou under, they press in easily. You only need to cover aproximately half of the back side with the UHMWPE. Use a 5/32 for the sheet metal screw.

Some pics of the final product:

Full throttle

Since I had to buy such a large quantity of fasteners and what not, if anyone would like to buy a DIY material set, PM me ($20 shipped). If I can get a couple of people interested I can order the sheet metal screws and a few more hinges and bundle it all together. For $40 I will make it for you.

I don't understand the throttle mods. What is it about the throttle people don't like?

ur foot cramps up trying to hold it up on the gas on long rides, making this extension allows u to rest ur foot on floor and still push the gas down ,

i just use my left foot , turn it sideways and rest my right foot on it when im on long rides, lol

nice write up

alot of peeps also get one of these to , they seem to work alright to -- T hinge from the hardware store

I put one on mine when I bought it in '08 as a temporary thing until I got to pull-n-save to scavenge a real pedal. Still using it as installed plus it has the advantage of being able to be flipped back flat on the floor if you don't want to use it.

I found this project pretty interesting. McMaster Carr actually sells a 2 3/8" polished hinge, though it is 3 times as much. Also I'm thinking the pedal might be better if it were .25" thick instead.
