For those of you that have built your own cages, what material did you use? I'm designing a 2-seater race style cage and am going to use chromoly just not sure on wall thickness. 090 or 120?

.095 1 3/4 inch DOM on all main parts, and 1 1/2 DOM on x bars and 1" for and grab bars. I have used about 65 feet so far just on the main structure.

You have to remember that you will make some mistakes here and there. I messed up on the length of one B piller and mis-notched a couple smaller tubes. I bought 80 feet of 1 3/4 initally.

I would recommend buying some regular welded tubing to practice with.

And write everything down that you do. Length of tube before your bend, degrees of bend, ect.

I am starting a new cage design, this one is going to be a 2 seater unlike you have ever seen... the coolest thing about it is that i am going to save tons in weight. I plan on using pvc tubing from home depot, I will keep you guys posted, I might start selling these puppies!

Just make sure to use the black stuff, not the white stuff OK?

Ohh and make sure to use the GOOD glue, not that cheap stuff the other guys use.

So.... whats dealer cost going to be?

Yea fortunatly I have a bend-tech program that helps take some of the guessing out of where to bend. I'll still pick up a stick or so extra because its bound to happen. If not i'll have it for making custom bumpers. Its been about 3-4 years since I built a couple jeep cages.

As for DOM or Chromo, im still debating, I guess cost will the deciding factor. Either way it'll probably get TIG welded, I have a Miller 210 but my bro has a miller TIG that makes welds look like art.

Well as long as you guys don't use that foam padding tube that goes around roll cages. I just bought a huge roll of 1 3/4, and a special bender (my knee), and I was going for weight as wel. I figured it may look a lil funny (like a poole made out of 10 balloons type of funny), but if I roll, should break my fall good! Just gotta pad my seats good so when rhino is upside down over me, the seats still feel comfortable!
