I was trying to replace a boot on the axle closest to the tire. When we got the axle off and took the clips off the boot to slide the boot back. Then I had to get the C.V joint off to replace the boot. I got a punch in a hammer and started trying to drive the C.V joint off. And no matter how hard we hit it, it would not move. We put it in the vice script and all it was doing was moving the axle through the vice grip. I looked at some videos and we were doing everything right people were just banging on it a few times and it came off. So my dad thought there has to be some kinda lock inside.

This video is one of the better ones out there for CV boot replacement.

The only thing holding the joint on the shaft is a circlip like the one on the differential side. Usually a hammer and drift will do the trick. Now if the clip is damaged and not sitting it its groove, or the thing is rusted solid, that would make things more difficult but the joint should still come off, though you might have to hit it harder.
