How do Bighorns run in the sand?

I'm contemplating getting a tire that is more all-around and durable, but maybe I will just have two sets of tires for duning and trail riding. It just seems that the 489's don't hold up as well in the desert and on the trails? I think the Bighorns have a 6-ply rating?

Dont you have 489's?
The plan is to get 489's since I have the long travel on its way, right now I have mudlite 27's which will be too tall. I love my mudlites, they seem to work great on any terrain including sand.

So, the question is, do I get 489's, smaller size mudlites, or Bighorns?

The bighorns do come in 25 Brian, and are 6 ply. I have both bighorns and 489's now. I have the bighorns for the desert and I'm going to mount them on steel wheels. I've got the 489's for the dunes on lightweight douglas beadlocks.

There tough but i haven't used them in the desert. I originally only had the bighorns and didn't want to tear up my nice rims so I put the stockers on for the desert. I just bought some steel wheels for the bighorns but haven't mounted them yet.

Maybe I will just do that, have two sets. What shop has the best price on beadlocks in Phoenix? Seems like Rhinocraps prices seem okay? What do you all think?

Not sure who has the best prices. I sort of pieced mine together and didn't end up saving any money.
That's what I've been doing with every accessory added on the Rhino so far and I don't feel like I've saved anything. :?

Well I decided on getting the 489's for now since I'm mainly at the dunes this time of year...maybe I will get some bighorns for summer riding.
