So far most of what I have read says to use only Yamaha wet clutch parts. The bad part is the only way to get the pads from Yamaha is the buy the whole assembly which is over 250 bucks but likely the only parts that are really worn out is just the friction material.

is there a source for just the friction pads without having to buy the whole assembly?

The oem clutch last a long time. That being said I would and did just buy a oem wet clutch to replace mine, and i bought the slug kit which should make the clutch last much longer. The cheaper clutches come apart/ degrade much faster and contaminate the oil and can plug oil passages. Not worth the head ache. just my 2 cents
