I took the head off assuming I was at TDC by mark on camshaft. I couldn’t figure out the mark I was looking for on flywheel. After looking more online I was able to find mark on flywheel, but my stator wire is rubbing against and also blocking the view. Now I’m really confused. I just want to know how to get this thing back in time. I tied to use method of finding piston at TDC but my valves don’t seem to line up. Tell me where to start if everything is out of time. Thanks!

Put the cylinder on and set the piston as high as it will go, lining up your flywheel mark. Install the head and line up the cam sprocket marks.

If the head is already installed, rotate the engine by hand untiil the intake valves open and close. Once they close, you are on the compression stroke. When the piston reaches its highest point that would be TDC. Your timing marks should be lined up and both intake and exhaust valve tappets should have play.
