Hello to all, and thanks for taking the time to even read my post about my issue im having with my 07 Rhino 660.
So first things first, couple weekends ago was down in Okeechobee Florida at Mud Fest (what a awesome time) ..... was out in the middle of the pit cruising around in 2wd when clickity-clack!!! Rhino comes to a hault. Was only riding about 4-5 mph when this happened. So tried to go foward and it made this god awful noise. So buddy hooks up to me to tow me back to camp and while being towed the rear wheels are completely locked up (Had it in neutral).... so get it drug onto the trailer and got it home.
When I get home I didnt have two other 4 wheelers to help drag it off the trailer and into the garage so I thought what the hell ill try and drive it off. Well luckily under light load I was able to back it off the trailer. If I gave it any significant throttle it would just clunk around and not go anywhere.
So I thought since the rear wheels locked up that the rear drive shaft splines we're sheared up. Pull it out and everything looked good. So jacked up the front and put it in 4wd and tried driving it while the front wheels were free and rear drive-shaft still removed to eliminate the rear differential and after a full rotation of the tires they would lock up. So thought it was the front differential. So had a buddy over tonight help me look at it for a bit and we think it may be the transmission but its hard to pinpoint the noise. So tomorrow I think I will remove the front drive shaft and try to drive it with neither front nor rear drive-shafts installed and see if the transmission is really the problem or not.
Anyone have any thought on this? I was in 2wd at the time that it made a popping noise in the mud-pit which led me to believe it was the rear that was the problem, but after removing the drive-shaft I'm completely lost that it still does it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Derek.
