I'm Registered in NY!

I had to go to DMV and register my toyhauler. I figured while I was there, I'd play dumb and try and have them register the Rhino. For those who don't know, NYS doesn't consider the Rhino an ATV because it it over 1000lbs. I went in with my cert of origin and my orignal paperwork from when I bought it in 2007. Everything was going swimingly until she put in the weight off the title into the computer. It wouldn't allow her to process it with the weight over 1000lbs. I played dumb and asked her if she could put the weight under 1000lbs and see if it would go through. She wouldn't do it. So I ended up going to a different DMV, without my Cert of Origin. I brought along a photo of the vin, and a declaration of ownership form. I put the weight on the reg. application as 990lbs. They clerk put it right through no problems and issued me a 1 year reg. and plate to mount on the rhino.

I'm going to go test it out this weekend up at Tug Hill and see if I have any problems.

I can't drive it on the road. In NY, all atv's have to be registered in order to ride it off your own property on what little trails there are here.

Sweet...id try it but my GF tossed my Cert of Origin. She still denies it but she did. Not sure what im going to do. I bought it from a guy who never signed it from when he bought it so i signed it and put it on my computer desk. I have no idea who the org owner is nor does the guy i bought it from.

You don't need your Cert of Origin. If you bring in a photograph of the vin # and fill out a mv51b "statement of ownership" you should be good to go. They might try and get youo on the sales tax unless you fill out a form "proving" what you paid for it.

I looked at that MV51B form and if i rememeber correctly you need a bill of sale with it. I dont even know the guys name. Where do you live? im 15 mins south of Albany. We used to ride a lot. Have some great trails by us just getting board of them. I think we have a idea of the rest of a trail we used to ride on the quads that brings you right up to Jiminy Peak.

hey this is worth a try - i have gone to DMV twice after i bought mine used. lady actually tried to work with me but the computer would not let it go through. i even called albany dmv to tell them i built a car from scratched..... yes they guy outsmarted me when he started asking a lot of questions i could not answer.

for those that do not know - in NY you CAN NOT ride on any road. in order to ride on a public trail an ATV must be registered.... but a rhino cna not be registered as an ATV because it weighs too much.

there are a couple private parks that they can be brought too w/o issue - but none close to me.
