Take the shift linkage off the lever at the engine, see if you can manually put it in, if so then a linkage adjustment

Does it not go in at all or pop out? I have to shift mine , hold it in, then accelerate at it holds

There is a 99.999% chance it is the shifter .... see if you can adjust it to go to low, and then if it goes into Reverse it is fixed, if it will not go into reverse then you will need a new shifter.

If you can not manually put it in low with the shifter disconnected, something is broken and you will need to split the case.
