Oil pumping from crankcase breather tube

I recently asked this question but did not get any response. I have a 2004 Rhino with about 2,000 miles. I noticed a lot of oil on my garage floor. I discovered it is pumping a large amount of oil from the crankcase breather tube into air box. I took my secondary muffler off because someone said I was getting a lot of back pressure. There is less air coming out of the crankcase tube but it still is pumping oil. in about 5 miles I had to add 1/2 quart. It does not smoke through the exhaust.

im not a 100 percent sure but it sounds like you need a siphon break. If there ran at high rpm's the rhinos can do that check the vendors area the siphon break is around 50 bucks. hopefully some one with with more experience will confirm this

KN intake, BRP cdi and cvt filter.

I'd do a leak down to verify that there is not an internal problem. If there isn't the sipon break is probably your answer.

mine is an 04 with the same prob.. bought a siphon break and its fixed

I have not tried a compression or leakdown test and have not tried a siphon break. What I just tried was taking the dip stick out and starting the engine. When I did that I got a whole lot of air and smoke blowing through the hole for the dip stick. What do you guys think now?

There is a lots of crankcase pressure from the big single cylinder. So it could be normal.

I think you should do a compression or leakdown test. Do it per FSM procedure, and that should give you an indication of overall cylinder/piston/valve health.

A friend of mine has a 2008 Rhino 700. I asked him to pull his dip stick and start the engine. He said that his pumped a lot of air and also some oil through the hole for the dip stick, so I guess that's normal. Next is a compression test.

The oil is being forced out by blow-by,(compression leaking past the piston into the crankcase)a siphon break doesn't fix the problem but it is a band-aid. If it where a different problem like poor crankcase ventilation than everyone would have the problem,Not all of us do. I have over 1000 miles on mine,much of it at high speeds on the street and never a problem.

Well, I think I finally got it figured out. Took it to my mechanic today and he did a compression test. Supposed to be about 150 pounds and only have 60 pounds. My mechanic is really surprised because it runs so good, starts right up and no exhaust smoke. He said anything under 80 pounds will make them usually not start or run. He suggested to try the siphon break and see what happens. I got it today and installed it. In about 10 seconds it fills the siphon break cannister and pumps oil out of the filter on the end of the vent hose. There is too much blow by which is causing a large amount of crankcase pressure which is pumping oil out. He is going to change rings and maybe piston, if necessary. Quoted about $515 parts and labor, sounds pretty reasonable to me. He only works on atv's, motorcycles and quads and is pretty well thought of around here.

Tore the engine down today and found the problem. The 2 ring lands on the intake side of the piston had broken off. It caused blowby and increased crankcase pressure which caused it to pump oil through the crankcase breather hose and into the air box. The mechanic thinks it might have been defective from the factory because the land tolerances appear to be off.
