700 Clutch issues

I have an 09 rhino 700 with 2100 miles. I bought used probably 5 years ago. It never had bottom end power but has no issue with top end power. Even in low range in a tight spot it won't even spin the tires. I replaced the wet clutch and drum (it was well worn) added slugs and new belt, cleaned the primary and regreased. It was better but still not right. My friends 660 goes fine in high range through spots that mine just "stalls" in low range, almost like the cvt is stuck in high. I am in the process of installing a sheeve, greaseless rollers and another belt. Watching the install videos I see that the 700 should have a fan on the secondary. Mine does not. There is not a place to put one either. Doing some searching it appears that the shaft where the secondary is looks like one in a grizzly. Is it possible that someone put a grizzly engine in here? If so, are the geared differently and that could be why it has no bottom end power? Did all of the 700's have a plastic fan on the secondary clutch? I attached a pic of what I think the shaft should look like and a pic of mine. Thanks

Also I see that my primary fixed sheave has a fan built on to it like a grizzly or 660 would

Welcome to the site, never owned a 700, but I think I've seen where some guys have removed the secondary fan and I don't know why as it pulls air through the sheave housing to help keep the belt cool. The only down fall with the Grizzly swap id the parking brake system the Grizzly has. I would check your engine # to see what you have then go from there.

Thanks, the # on the engine is M310E-048897. I don't know where to find out what that decodes to. Coming up empty on searches. Thanks again!

It appears you have a grizzly engine, The 700 rhino has a smooth back fixed sheave and fan on shaft.

Yes on the gearing being off, been a while but there is a difference in gearing

Thanks Hunterworks. I did a little more digging, all the gears in the trans are the same from rhino to grizzly. The output shaft (for the secondary) is different for the fan to attach. Also the "pinion gears" aka middle gears are also different which is where the gearing changes from rhino to grizzly. The grizzly is 24/18 tooth for a ratio of 1.33:1 The rhino is 17/12 tooth for a ratio of 1.42:1 for a difference of 6.5%. Hopefully the sheave and secondary spring I bought from you will wake this thing up. Thanks for everyone's input.

Maybe, but might be better to change the clutch up a bit, might end up with lighter weights to help overcome the lower rpm.

I used a grizzly engine and put in a rhino before, had to swap parts but could not remember what I changed been a few years

There is also a park mechanism in there that is not in the rhino

I had both engines one just had a busted case so I swapped internals
