Cheap HP for 450

I just bought an 09 450 and am looking for just a little more power. Does anyone know of some cheap easy upgrades(under $300). Still under warranty so I don't want to get to wild yet. Someone said to pull the fan off of the motor?? Any info on that??

Right now the cheapest thing for the 450 that will give a little more speed would be a sheave. Which is about $200. I got my from utv crap. They sell new ones and used ones the used ones are cheaper. But most of the stuff of the you can do for it will cost more than your $300 limit. Here is a list of what I think help and works.

1. high flow air filter (may need to rejet carb.)
2. exhaust ( will this you wil need to rejet)
3. cdi
4. sheave

Just so you know my rhino is still under warranty also. But you should be able to get the exhaust and the carb jet kit from your dealer then that you should be ok on the warranty. You can put the high flow air filter with no problems with your warranty.

But just so you know this just gives some more top end speed. The only way you more hp is to do internal engine work. But the stuff that I listed will help it go faster.
Pulling the fan motor off like you asked about I don't know if that will help or not. I have only told of the stuff I have done and know that works. But maybe some one else knows about taking that fan off on the 450.

Try an iridium spark plug. It won't add hp but it will improve throttle response and help with cold starting.

Grind the weld on the exhaust to open up the exhaust a little. Do a search there is a post on here with photos.

Getting the jet kit and pipe from your dealer is a waste of $$$. A cdi, sheave, jet kit, exhaust tip(not the whole exhaust), freer flowing air filter and grinding the excess weld out of the exhaust header will be a great combo. UTV CRAP and Unleashed are both forum vendors and can get you set up the right way the first time!

ps-none of these cost more than $300 each, You may end up about 5-700 total. by the way-Welcome!

Thanks for all the help. I will check these out for sure. I had thought about yanking the stock muffler off and searchin e-bay for used performance muffler off of like a 450 quad just so I could get rid of all that excess pipe under the bed.

You Pull Off Fan, You Looking For Trouble. It Has Nothing To Do With Speed Or Power.

fan

pulling the fan is for water riding. in the water it will kill the power. on dry land it keeps the exaust cool.

fan...

Ur a retard.. pulling off the fan isnt a good thing its a great thing!! It doent do a damn thing except make noise! U will not notice a single differance without it except that it doesnt mind going deep in the water... Move ur ignition coil pack up too if ur rhino likes to swim, mine is located on cylinder head now. Cdi, sheve/weights, filter have gotten me to 45-46mph

u do realize the reply before urs was from 6 yrs ago. do u have a vid of ur 450 doing 45 mph i would like to see it. mine is an 09 with jbs sheave od weights a blue spring and washers on secondary and a dynatech ignition. i can do 40 mph all day long but not 1 mph more. in my opinion 45 mph on a 450 would require some engine mods but that just an opinion

Lol, yeah i seen that after i posted.. kinda sad how overlooked the 450 is.. it lacks the rapid zip of its big brothers but it is rocksolid dependable. Ill take a pic of digi dash and put it on my pics when i get hm from wk in 4 days.. im not sure what it will do now! It used to do that but ive changed to swamplites now vs mudlites.. u ever actually hear anyone ever put a cam or bigbore on 450?
