I gonna figure out the volume of a stock air box and see if I can fit a custom plenum the same size under the engine cover if I am not happy with the power loss I get.

LOL!!!
You got 4" to fit all the way up front? I may just hook this up and do a couple 300ft time trials and see what I lose and go from there...

Do either of you have any 300ft or 100 yard time trials on pavement from your machines with this setup for comparison?

I ordered the commander 800 elbow and am awaiting its arrival.

With the filter mounted on the throttle body I am averaging around 6.1 to 6.26 sec 300 ft times avg speed 50-51 mph 7250 rpm with 26" tires on pavement.

Performance Info

Well I did before and after 300ft testing.

Before:
Avg time 6.19 sec at 50-51 mph

After:

Avg time 7.12 sec 49-50 mph.

I am running at 12.2 to 1 AFR so I may be able to lean it out some, and I am hoping the STM rage 6 and secondary make up anything that I lost. I am going to run this setup for a while and dial in my AFR and see what I can net with these clutches, then next year the GT2052 is going on.

Well for a NA application I believe I was always told about 13.2 would be ideal. I could be wrong though

Well I lost some power by not utilizing a plenum. Did not run any time trials yet but I am about 3 lengths behind the 1000 commanders even with my STM clutches.. Been tuning to 13.1 AFR pulled fuel out on the big end from 11.9 to 12.8 (8 to 4 on the controller) and added a little fuel to the mid range.

I have been thinking of doing something with my intake as well. A little loud for the wife and 3 year old.

Would using the sled style intake which routes to under the drivers seat result in less power loss? The thing that wories me about routing it to under the drivers seat is these motors seem to put off tremendous amounts of heat. Seems like to air would be better from under the hood.

We normally just do trail riding in Northern Az so no racing but I did get rid of my stocker and buy a Rhintax for the extra power.

Its a toss up. Both setups (mine) and the snowmobile intake setup end up with a loss of power due to the extra turns in the intake. Do yours the other way and we can compare 300 ft times.... I was looking at the S&B rhino intake real hard. It appears that could be modified to work with a rotax as well, and that puts it under the seat. Post up some pics of what you do..

I think that both Brian B and Donald have tried it on there 975 BBK and Im not sure what Brians thoughts were but Donald personally told me he noticed a huge loss in power from running a open filter straight off the throttle body.
