Bought a rotax rhino, some questions.

Actually bought a rhino with a rotax swap just to rob the engine (and some other parts off it) and swap them onto my rhino since mine already has a race built chassis, suspension seats, etc. My plan is to put the rotax in mine, then the 660 out of mine back in the other rhino, and sell it.

I took the rotax rhino riding today, it did good, not geared as low as I had hoped (in low range), defintely not good for rocks, seemed like it would smoke the belt. That's OK though, it's gonna be used for racing, not crawling.

My main question right now is, will the rotax not start if it gets above a certain temperature? Seems like a couple times I cut it off, and it wouldn't start back till it cooled down (check engine light was ON), when the light doesn't come on, it will start.

Based on the speedometer, I got up to about 60mph, but it seems like it would be comfortable holding about the 40-50mph range. Is the speedo accurate? I am sure the can-am ATV's must be geared different than the rhinos. Anyone figured out what it equates to?

I've got a good winter project though...

not sure about the starting thing but my speedo was on with my gps running 26" Terra Cross tires. Very top speed I ever got was 74. But I could consistently get 69.

I'm running BO 26" 2.0 now which are physically taller. Not sure how far off it is now.

depending on what is causing the check engine light it may not start. pull your p codes and see what it was, the gauge will hold the code. from what you said it was most likely over temp. if your rhino has a stock rhino radiator this is just not enough cooling for the rotax.

With stock tires my rhino has saw 76 mph. WIth 26" BH 2.0 I am seeing around 70-72 mph. Have not confirmed with gps yet.

Yamaha Rhino Radiators,Yamaha Rhino CV Boot Guards,Yamaha Rhino Skid Plates.

These guys make a special radiator for the conversion that is 1/8" thicker than their standard triple pass bolt in upgrade for the 700. They also have a nice oilcooler and air deflector. I have both and they work good.

What temps do these run at? It has a nice radiator and oil cooler, I think the hottest I saw was probably 220, but that was going somewhat slow too.

What defines a nice radiator in your eyes? Anything less than a 3 pass radiator will in most cases be insufficient.

Depending where you have your temp sensor will very how accurrate your gauge is. Put your sensor on the upper hose (return hose) right after where it comes out of the engine. Also make sure you bleed the system.

ECU turns the fan on around the 220 mark and off arount 210. Way to high for me. I use an override switch. TCP setup is the bomb!

Not sure on radiator, it is an aftermarket aluminum one. I will likely use the radiator/fan in my rhino, as it is already mounted. I will likely have the fan on constant as well.
