RYR - UTV Guide - UTV Of The Month!

Wow! What an awesome shake-down weekend! It was great seeing many of you!

I would like to thank all of my sponsors for 2010. This Rhino has been an ongoing project since 06. It has seen many stages in it's life, but I believe this is the setup I've always longed for. The final stage of this build was developed to take racing for the 2010 Whiplash Racing series. Still wanting a capable car for aggressive duning, we believe we've found just the setup. Halloween '09 was this Rhino's maiden voyage with it's new Rotax power plant, Lonestar suspension and cage. We worked our fingers to the bone in the last week before Halloween weekend. I'll say that having never done it before, Greg and I were powdercoating the cage and skins at 3:00 on Thursday and made it to Glamis that night. Looks pretty dang good I must say.

Once we got to testing, the car had to be shook down a bit. It wanted to run hot during the day, but once the outdoor temps cooled down it was on! A few minor bugs were worked out and it ran flawlessly for 3 days in the dunes while beating 98% of the competition at the hill, as well as the drags. Greg took the car to the drags Saturday and it ran 70mph!

A big huge thanks goes out to Fox Racing and Greg of Lonestar Racing. The two teams worked tirelessly tuning Lonestars new "XTR-F" suspension system. After a few adjustments and a spring change, the car would run 65+ MPH through any whoop you could throw at it!

All in all, we couldn't be happier with how the car turned out. Big thanks to Jon @ UTVGuide.net for choosing my Rhino as this months UTV Of The Month!

UTV of the Month

Rotax Your Rhino
October 2009

Information:
This Rhino was the brainchild of Brian Bush of RotaxYourRhino.com. The Rhino has had a new Rotax engine from CanAm. The cage and a lot of the fab work was done by Lonestar Racing.
I had the opportunity to catch up with Brian and Greg from Lonestar in Glamis over Halloween weekend while they were out testing it for the first time. Let me tell you, it came out awesome.

Sleek lines really set off this Rhino. No way to tell there is anything up with any engine swap from here, but hidden within lies a Rotax 800 v-twin engine complete with 12:1 pistons, Woods cam kit, Muzzys Dual exhaust and how does 62 HP at the rear wheels sound?

Fox 2.0 DSC Position Sensitive Dampening shocks with Lonestar arms and Muzzys Dual Exhaust set off the rear. This is the new Lonestar Racing XTR-F 6.5" wider long travel, featuring front and rear shock towers for Fox position sensitive shocks, 14.5" of wheel travel, easy adjust caster, optimum shock geometry, and low leverage ratios for racing conditions.

Love the 8.5" Fox shocks poking through the hood attached to Lonestar's new shock relocation bracket.

I still can't believe we finished it on time. We were putting the tabs on for the oil cooler at 10am thursday! It turned out awesome. I am really impressed with that Rotax motor!

yeah.. but its got some different stuff going on from our production ones. It has a slanted roof, door bars, quick release rear fender mounts, roof, firewall, and side panels, built in rear shock mounts, built in rear bumper with spare tire mount, and gusset plate, fire extinguisher mount, oil cooler mount, built in hooks for quick release harness, x braced roof, v braced window, etc etc.. Its all ready to go desert racing, and be one hell of a fun play car!

I can tell you some things, but its still being developed. This was the 1st weekend out with the prototype set up.

It basically uses our same a-arms from our normal XTR long travel kit, so it can be upgraded if one already has our XTR kit.

It uses the new position sensitive Fox shocks with new upper shock mounts front and rear. It still has the same amount of wheel travel, but the leverage ratios have been dropped down and the shocks stood up more for extreme driving and racing conditions that can now be seen with motor swaps and the more reliable higher horsepower engines that are available. With the position sensitive shocks, basically you won't really have to worry about bottoming the car out on landings and g-outs, and don't have to worry about larger woops that can jump out and bite you in extreme situations.

We are proud to be the first to bring the next level in suspension systems for the side x side market that will soon be available from us.

they have to be an improvement over my setup.

BTW, get rid of that front skid plate, it will cool better. I found this out on the dyno with a Dyno fan in front, no air, even with holes like you have.
