Kids in the back?

So I have seen quite a few pics of kids car seats strapped in the back seat of a rhino. At what age is it "safe" to start taking kids out? Obviously it is limited to the terrain you ride but for your average trail cruising.
Do you use a youth MX helmet on them?

I have a 2 year old and one of the major reasons I'm looking at getting a rhino is because it will be a while before he can really hold on a quad as a passenger. But I don't know if I'm kidding myself about him being able to ride on the rhino yet.

Any thoughts?

I ride with my kids in the desert - littlest is almost 2. Weve been riding with him for a few months. You just have to be aware that there is alot more bucking movement in the back than where you sit. Make sure you have all the safety items too. (by the way, he LOVES it! )

For sure he is good to go in the back as long as you get all the right equipment. By the way I found that you can get kids helmets at a ski/snowboard shop that are great. They are tons lighter than a youth mx helmet so the little ones heads dont flop around as much. Not a full face but you really dont need that in a rhino anyway. Just make sure you buy a high quality one at an actual ski shop. The ones my kids use look like heavy duty skateboard helmets.

Consider a neck ring too. I have one for both of my kids. At that young age their neck muscles are still quite weak. If you ride in the back you will experience how bad the "bucking" effect can be. My girls are 6 and 8...both wear mx helmets and goggles along with the neck rings.

Thanks for the replies.

It looks like I should be able to work out something for him. The #2 kid isn't here yet, but the bun will be in the oven soon.

Now I just need to take the plunge, the CFO is watching me closely though and she is still on the fence about it.

Youngest was 6 months when he started riding in the Rhino. Strapped his bucket in the same way it would be in the back seat of my truck. And my 2 year old buckled in with a 5 point harness. They both loved it and fell asleep pretty quick. Like everyone has said, drive accordingly and they will be fine.

My daughter was 8 weeks old and we did a 40 mile loop in the desert (3.5 hrs). I strapped a car seat in front and did the same with my boy when he was that young. My daughter was 1 and a half when we put her in the back. Did a 98 mile loop in the desert with them over Presidents weekend. Dove Springs to the Schmidt Tunnel, through last chance canyon to Randsburgh then to Jawbone, altogether it was a 9 hour day. She just turned 2 and my son is 10 months. My wife is extremely careful and she always rides in the middle of the pack (beleive me there are no speed records broken). The kids love it, the Rhino's put the youngest right to sleep. The boy's up front, my daughter is right behind him and my friends kid is next to her.
