Don't just put anything into your off-road vehicle
Motor oil is just motor oil, right? Wrong! Your ATV or UTV requires motor oil just like any other motorized vehicle, but any oil just doesn’t cut it. These machines run at higher RPM, work harder and run harder than your truck does, so specialized oils are definitely called for. What separates motor sports oil from common stuff off the shelf? It’s all about what goes into the blend. Let’s take a look at five of the best motor oil products for your off-road fun.
Interesting read, however I disagree as I would not use any of those oil choices. I use Mobil1 0W40 and Shell Rotella T6 5W40. Both of these are wet clutch safe, inexpensive, are capable of temperatures from sub zero -20 to +130F and are race proven all over the world.
I use only those also....Rotella T6 saved our truck from blowing the motor after the radiator went south, and I drove it all the way home, towing the hauler.
Agreed. It might be a case of "sponsored content". However I am interested in the Amsoil, here in the desert, I think that 5W-50 might be a good weight for my needs...
Don't they say that most engine wear occurs at startup? Look at the used synthetic vs new conventional in the first video. You all can do that test yourself and see the results. BTW when I did my 2nd oil change with synthetic, it didn't look anywhere as black as the used synthetic in that video. I only changed it out at 1500 miles.......just because.
I prefer zero weight oils due to the wide range of temperatures they will perform at. A few weeks ago we rode around in Arizona in the river side dunes at 125°F using Mobil1 0W40. Worked perfectly and there was no need to switch to anything higher in viscosity. Also at a base of 72cSt, it will fire your engine in the coldest Alaskan winters. Flows faster at start up, even down those long oil tubes we have.
When our new, **cough** Turbo is ready for next oil change we will be using T6.
It is hibernating in the garage till August, then off to Mammoth area for 3 day group ride!!
