I bought mine after it had been sitting for about three years, and went through a similar process that continued until I replaced the fuel pump, fuel lines, and filter. The fuel and water has more than likely separated, and without a doubt a new fuel filter will help. But these are also notorious for fuel pump issues as well. I purchased this high flow fuel pump (Yamaha Rhino 660 - High Flow Fuel Pump - Yamaha Rhino 660) and the new high flow lines to go along with it as well. Rhino's stock lines have had an issue with tiny particles from the inside of the fuel lines to clog the jets in the carb. I think I replaced them both for less than $100. But I agree with Haymaker, I would pull the carb and clean it out real well and replace the fuel filter at minimum. If you take your fuel filter down with you to the auto parts store they will have one that will work, or you can order oem. Run a bottle of seafoam through it, and it will help clean things out and stabilize the fuel, but chances are good that if it's been sitting that long that the lines will continue to cause you problems. Hope that helps.

It could be a lot of things...and it could be a combination of things...
What did the old plug look like... Are you the original owner and has the carb ever been opened... Make sure you have no exhaust leak at the flange/seal... As far as steam coming off the radiator...is the temp light coming on...is the fan cycling on/off...are you loosing coolant...is it spitting out coolant...if yes you might have a leaking head gasket... Valves...it is very easy to check valves...and if they are loose they will tap...but if they are tight you NEED to adjust them...the exhaust typically don't tighten up much...the intakes DO...the exhaust are a pita to adjust but the intakes are super easy... If you were popping only on decel from high rpms I would say idle a/f adjustment...and bigger pilot jet...assuming your intake/carb/exhaust are all 100% stock... If it has poor run ability and back fires and dies it is simply running out of gas...poor fuel delivery and/or carb malfunction (including clogged jets) are the two possibilities...step one is to make sure there is plenty of gas in the line to the carb...step two is to verify fuel level inside float bowl...doing those two things alone usually isolates or at least narrows things down a lot right off the bat... All of your fuel delivery kits make this very quick and easy... Open the carb...clean/inspect...if it has been worked on by others document what is in it...and go from there...while you have it open I highly recommend you at a minimum put at least a 45 pilot jet in it... Rhino 660 That link will take you to the 660 air/fuel/carb/cdi page on our website... RuttingRhino.com - Yamaha Rhino Forum - Rhino Forums.net That link will take you to our vendor section on this forum... If you need a service manual pm me with your email address... Thanks for looking... |
