Got the Lowrance baja 540c! I love it! I got the map card for a more detailed version. Mounted it where the warning lable is. I cut the opening more towards the left with an opening big enough for the back to slide through. I then screwed down the knobs normally used with the mounting plate from the back side. It pulled the gps nice and tight to the dash. I then put four aux switches down the right side. I'll try and get a pic. Turned out great!

One thing you want to mindful of with mounting your Lowrance GPS unit is to make sure that your external entenna is a minimum of 3 feet or 36 inches away from the unit. It is possible if they are too close that the unit can freeze it's self and you will have to send it back to the factory. I have had this problem twice since I have had both of units on 2 of my rhinos.

I did the same thing after mine locked up last time I was at the dunes. I actually used to have my GPS mounted in the dash where everyone seems to be placing them. I found that when I was desert racing it was hard to look dwn at it and I got some glare from the sun. I have moved it behind the steering wheel and sunk it into the dash up there. Works so much better and is more natural. Next step is making a sheild for it to protect what little bit of the back side that is exposed. Another thing I learned is to removed your unit and entenna from the car if it is going to be sitting in the garage in the heat for us in AZ. Same will go with the guys that live in the extreme cold areas. The other nice thing about where my GPS is mounted is that the cables and back side are protected by the aluminum plate it's mounted to. Keeps debry and water from having direct contact to the unit.
