Very stubborn Checkers HID Light

I have 2 4" Checkers HID's installed on my Rhino. Each on their own switch. One fires instantly. The other I have to keep flipping the switch off and on sometimes at least 20 times to get it to fire. Does this even after it's hot. Checked and rechecked the wiring, ground and finally put it on its own switch. Has anyone tried to change the ballast in one of these or did I just get a dud. It's less than 6 months old.

I'd say bad ballast, probably cheaper to buy a new light.

Has anyone ever opened one of these lights up? I'm pretty confident that the wiring is ok. I have the power coming off its own source from a Painless Relay. Wondering if there's a wiring issue inside the light.

might consider larger guage wire if your run is fairly long.

more then likey this happens from not enough power to durning start up for the hid.
need larger wire, bigger battery, etc...

2 out of my four would only turn on at a time - then I waited about 15-20 sec until those two were warm and then flip the switch and the other tow would turn on.

I really think it is the light. I try to turn it on by itself without anything else turned on and the engine rev'ing. Voltage meter indicates the battery is charging at over 14.35. I've emailed Checker's customer service to see if that can lead any where.

it is a good idea to use a relay controlled by the switch to operate the on off function for the lights. The contacts inside the relay do not restrict the flow of voltage like a switch can, due to the mechanism set up used to control the contact points.

I've done that also using a Painless fuseblock with relay. Each light is coming off its own power source from the relay.

I've opened them up before - I doubt its anything in there though, I'd bet its somewhere in your wireing - could be a weak relay or something. Can you switch your lights and see if it does it with the other light on that circuit ?

I have the painless fuseblock with the relay. This relay is to control the circuits used when the ignition is on. you need to use a relay in between the fuse and the light. Youre on off switch will controll the relay and your relay will control the lights. I have a relay for each switch.
