I've done that also using a Painless fuseblock with relay. Each light is coming off its own power source from the relay.
I have the painless fuseblock with the relay. This relay is to control the circuits used when the ignition is on. you need to use a relay in between the fuse and the light. Youre on off switch will controll the relay and your relay will control the lights. I have a relay for each switch.
Not a wiring expert, so just so I understand. Place a relay between the light and fuse. Sounds like a inexpensive thing to try. Is there just one wire going into the relay from the switch and one wire coming out of the relay going to the light? Do I have to wire anything else to the relay?

Power to the lights from the relay, ground the relay, constant hot to the relay, and your switch power. I have two of the Kragen lights and one of mine did the same thing. There wasn't enough juice. After I put the relay in it hasnt failed yet.

Mine do the same thing, I'll run relays to them and give it a shot.

OK, I think I understand. Ground and separate constant hot to the relay. The same ignition controlled power to my light switch that I'm currently using. The wire from the light switch goes to the relay. Power from relay to the light. Any specific type of relay that I need to get?

this is the way to go. these light for as inexpensive as they are have a very low faliure rate. i would deff check your wiring before buying a new one...

Using Relays To Wiring Off Road Lights And Accessories
This would have helped me out about 2 weeks ago when I was wiring up my dads hid's on his ranger. This should be a big help for other people.

It looks like I need to get a SPDT relay according to the link in Hondafan's post. This is all beginning to make sense to me. Just wonder why one light works and the other doesn't. I think I'll begin by just wiring the bad light to the relay. When I bought the Painless relay I thought I had everything covered. I looks like I'll need a different switch also. The switches that I am using don't have a ground post on them, just power in, power out. Just keep learning from you guys.

Before you open it up, run a hot and ground wire directly to the unit (with a fuse in the hot side) No relay no switch.

Hook up the ground direct to the battery and then using insulated pliers or?? press the hot wire onto the + side direct.

If it lights right away, it's not the light. Switch is a very likely culprit or bad ground.

But take a moment to eliminate all the stuff in between.

X2. Mine did this even with the relay. It turned out that my ground was not good enough. A little grinding and I was good to go.

I had a problem on one of mine a while ago. Tried everything!!!!! I ran a seperate 12v 10ga to light, and grounded to battery and still had problems getting it to light up! So, I decided to take apart for the hell of it and found that one of the wires (can't remember if it was power or ground) going into the ballast thingy was loose! It would work fine when I wiggled it! So, I cut away alot of the silicone shit around the ballast thing, and found that one of the wires had come un-soldered from the circuit board! I re-soldered it, and it has been fine since then!

Looks like that's what I'm going to have to do. Redid the wiring with a relay. First time it fired up right away. After that it went back to the same old thing. Checkers won't take it back because I had it for 4 months. It's a PITA sitting there trying to get it to light up when all I want to do is get going.
