660 engine fan removal??

Sorry if this is a stupid question but i am new to the whole Rhino thing. Just got myself an 07 camo 660 with too many options to list. Love the machine but noticed the first time I was in water about 3-5 inches over the floor it bogged out like it was loosing power. I thought a connection at first. So i checked it over found the plug boot was off just a bit. I figured I had the problem solved. Then went in some deep water this weekend and it boggs and sputters the same. So i started reading on snorkels and noticed something about the fan removal on the 660's? Any help is appreciated.

maybe a link to a thread for the removal and what the benefits are?

You just unbolt it- it's the fan that's attached to the passenger side of the engine. I took mine off to do the 686 kit, but haven't put it back on. I'm not a mudder, but I can't really see how effective this fan would be... just blowing air on the stator cover? I think I'll leave mine off... I know a lot of guys do. It's the only way you can run an alternator, so it seems common!

ok, its the dumbest thing yami did, its a fan runs of the crank to turn a fan to blow air on the stock exhaust rubber bracket, u can see a tube ran to it,

when u go in water or mud its fighting to turn ur motor thru the mud n water,

its a for sure thing to remove, and they didnt install it any longer on the 700 models anyways

remove passenger seat, remove the black cover from side of motor and 4 bolts bolting on fan and the washer plate, remove all that crap install black cover back on and ur done,

Awesome thx alot guys. I will be taking this fan out this week. I am sure that is what is happeneing when I am in water its almost like the motor is loosing power. Than once I am out it takes a couple seconds than here comes the power again.

I have the same issue as well and was wondering why this happens... I live here in Flori duh and when in the muddy water it bogs as if it is going to conk out.... It never does but sure freaks you out thinking it might stall... I am all snorkeled out and even have the gas tank vent removed from the frame and lifted up to the level of the snorkels... Think removing this fan will help my issue?

It for sure will. Mine has been off over a year now. No issues.

had same issues with my 660. took advise from posts here and removed fan. with in 6 mnts all rubber in exhaust mounts were destroyed. dealer said it was because no exhaust fan, and i was lucky stater didnt over heat. got scared and put fan back on. wish i new for sure cause i ride in water-mud all the time and hate the bogging down.

Well easy fix for that dump the exhaust and get your self a set of muzzys :-) problem fixed

Hey MB,

There's a new guy scutty83 thats looking for the stock fan assembly, you may be able to sell it for a couple of bucks.

Thx man but I think I will keep it just in case I ever get rid of this thing. That way I can put it back on if the next guy wants it. I havent followed this thread but I read someone was worried about the stator is that acutally a concern?? I cant see this little fan cooling much of anything except that exhaust mount?

are you shure its not the coil getting wet. I have a hard time believing that a 660 engine cant power a little fan in water. try spraying areas of the engine with water starting from the bottom up.

I've done some deep water crossings and never found that that little fan robbed enough engine power to notice a difference.
You said that it sputters. That fan wouldn't cause the engine to sputter.
If it's bogging/sputtering that much, I would suspect something else is up.
