Remove tail light lens

Hey guys, replacing my regular tail lights with Yamaha led tail light ass'ys. Anyways, how the heck do you get the lens off so you can remove the tail light assembly from the side plastic???? I see tabs but they dont seem to move and I dont want to ram on it.....yet. Need some help.

You have to unscrew the nuts all the way off and twist the light out from the backside.

you have to remove the bed sides then it is super easy. I guess you haven't removed the bed sides yet.

So the lens doesnt have to come off??? Man is that going to be a tight squeeze....hope I dont break any plastic.

Sides are off. Light assembly just doesnt want to come out of its cell. I figured the lens had to come off then the rest of the assembly would just fall out. Right now I dont see how it would twist out with the lens on.

They are bolted from the rear. 10mm I think is what they were

It is a tight squeeze but is much faster if you don't pull the bedsides. If you do, it obviously will be easier but more time consuming. Just unbolt them and twist them sideways out.

I pulled just the rear bolts of the bed sides then just squeezed my hand in.

Take the bedsides off and save yourself the headache. The tailights are held in with two 10mm nuts

yup 2 10mm bolts, unscrew them a lil and then the light will slide out....u dont need to take the bolts all the way off...just back them off a 1/2 inch

Well, got R done. Guys, I had the sides off and lights unbolted but just didnt want to giver hell to get that assembly out, especially when it's only about 35 out today. Ended up doing the twist but was praying the whole time that I didnt break any plastic. Whew!!

I dont really mind sounding dumb so here goes,Whats the advantage of replacing the stock taillights with leds?

Yep, I was mainly after the backup lights for snow plowing. Second advantage is much lower amp draw when plowing at night with headlights/brakelights/winch combo. Too bad they're so F'n expensive.
