Dune etiquette

After following the Flattened thread, it looks like it might be a good idea to post some "rules" about duning. Stuff like who has the right of way and when to use a spotter or whatever. I have been to the Dunes just 4 or 5 times and there is no real source to pick up on this stuff, other than experiance and common sense anyway.

Please post up, we might jsut keep someone from getting hurt or worse.

Mods....This might be a good stickey this thread if it comes together.

When you get to the crest of a dune, dont just go straight over the top. Ride the ridge until you can see its clear on the other side.

i am personaly a fan of offering assistance to duners in need. i have been in plenty of situations that had it not been for the assistance of fellow duners i would have been in for a long sandy walk or waiting stuck/broke somewhere for who knows how long. we rhino guys are fortunate to be in vehicles that are highly capable of assisting other duners in many ways, be it towing quads/bikes/rangers/rails back to a camp or helping to ferry riders or tools or gas to others who are stranded or broke down in hard to access areas. to me its about karma, if you drive by the guys trying to drag a broke quad with another quad instead of taking the time to hook up a strap and pull it for them, someone is gonna do the same thing to you when your busted, karma, what goes around comes around.
and most importantly...theres usualy a beer or two in it for you when you get someone back to camp

if you have to think about whether or not someone could be on the other side of a jump and you might need a spotter to watch out for you than you are too close camp or other people anyways.

Right of way....I always yield to anyone i get close to. If you assume that since youre on a 450 bike, a rail or whatever, the guy on a 1975 ATC 90 is gonna get outta the way, youre trusting him to make the right decision. Basically....dont trust anyone!!!

WTF
So your saying on one go riding very far from camp and it ok to jump with out spotter as long as your not close to camp? I've never been to the dunes but seem to me you should always use a spotter close to camp or not. Just my 2 cents.

It is also your duty as a fellow duner to beat the shit outta the guy that thinks everyones impressed at how fast his bike is when he goes by your camp at 80 mph or rides wheelies around everyones camp.....never understood why people drive 100's of miles to ride the whole weekend around camp?!?!

No shit, me and some buddies almost got in a fist fight with two morons doing that. There is a 10mph speed in the staging parking lot, and then 2800 fucking acreas to do what ever you want. These two morons kept drifting around the parking lot, and around ppls setups. Almost every time I go there, atleast two ass clowns are doing that stupid shit.

Save the riding for the dunes. Don't go blowing by 30ft from peoples camps at 60 mph. Not only is it rude but also dangerous, peoples kids are around.
If you absolutely must drive metal stakes into the ground (which I dont agree with) put something on them so people can see them (ie: Orange tape. Orange cones).
At the very least take back with you what you brought out, or more. Don't ditch your trash, blown down EZ-ups, cans, bottles, whatever out there. We are losing our riding areas fast enough.

I'm sure I can think of a TON more. Thats just a start.

I agree about the riding around camp thing. Another thing that bothers me is when you have camp all setup with your ring of fellow campers and someone comes and sets up camp 10ft away from you. I know the dunes get crowded and all but next time leave me a can opener so I can atleast get out.
