I ran Rotella T 15 x 40 in my 660 Raptor for 10 years without a problem. Ran it in 2 diesels without a hitch. Used it in my Rhino since '06 and now in my Honda 700xx. Just be sure to use an oil that "does not" say energy conservative within the small circle. Not good for wet clutches. It is getting harder to find on like that. Most 10-30 and 10-40 have that seal. Chevron makes a good one and Pennzoil did but I have not seen it lately. Just make sure it does not have that label and you will be good to go.

I've been running Rotella 15-40 non syn in my 07 Honda CRF 450r since brand new, never had a clutch or engine problem at all. I am planning on using Rotella in my Rhino when I do the oil change here soon also.

Just got the Rotella T6 syn 5W-40 oil lab results: Abnormal

"Elevated nickel and copper. Recommend change lube oil and lube fiter. Note: Viscosity appears to be low."

I'm sorry to say that the Rotella syn 5W-40 is not working out in the Rhino. The readings are almost identical for the Rotella T-6 and the other oil I had tested last time, Mobile1 15W-50.

-- Okay this test was on the above oil with 50 hours on it. I just put a fresh batch of the same 5w-40 oil with a new filter. I am going to change it out, but with what? Straight 30W?

Comments?

Okay, I talked with the technician that tested the oil and I gave him the specifics on what and how the Rhino engine was designed. It is a high reving motor (8500 rpm's) with a wet centrifical clutch and moving transmission gears. What the tech is saying is that the engine is breaking down (shearing) the polymers (or "VI" viscosity additives) so that it becomes the lowest rating on the oil, .i.e. 10w-40 goes back to 10 weight oil when the added polymers break up.

So the best thing to do is change your oil all the time (like some people on this board do anyway), or just use a straight weight oil that is not energy conserving. He recommended using a straight 40w in the summer. I would say a straight 30w would be good in the winter. He also said running Yamalube 10w-40 motorcycle oil wouldn't make any difference in the shear factor.

It cost about $25 to get your oil tested if you want to test your brand.
