I'm at the time when I need to either buy the service contract or not...Since my 450 Rhino is still "new" , I'm wondering how everybody feels about these service contracts...Guess my major concern is how do the Rhino's hold up on the long haul...I'm under 100 miles but will increase my use in the winter, ie taking it ice fishing.. Thanks for the help !!!

I did the YES on ours but it has only been to the dealer once and that was at about a month old. I did not pay for the YES, I worked the best deal I could, told them I need to think about it and left the dealer. 45 minutes later they called to see what I thought ... I tried to get more money off and they said no, I said throw in the YES and you got a deal. I would not have paid what they were asking for the YES but it is piece of mind knowing I have it. In most cases it is only as good as the dealer you have working on it!!!!

I bought one because you can buy from any authorized Yamaha dealer and you can find some decent deals online. For your particular machine you can find them on ebay for about $449. This is for a 48 month extension so you would get a full 54 month warranty. If you look up the user promotorsportsinc you will find what you're looking for. I actually bought mine for my 700fi for $469 a couple months ago but I think they are looking at $525 now. I figured for around $125 a year, if I have to take it in once it would make it well worth it to me.

That is true, if you do not take it in for regular service, you could be denied service. The contract basically states that you have to keep all receipts and show proper maintenance, just as you would need to do with any extended warranty for a car. It does not state that you can not change the oil, etc on your own but I would suspect if they really wanted to hassle you about it that they definitely could do so. I guess it all depends on how well you trust your local dealer and if they will hassle you or if they will fight for you if Yamaha says no on something.

I paid $400 for four years of YES-- I consider it cheap insurance because anything major that breaks is going to cost a lot more. I also do my own service/maintanence and they cannot deny you YES coverage if you do your own maintenance-- all you need is receipts showing you bought the parts to do the work.

I wouldn't do it. They say yes but when it goes bad it turns into No! Mike8212 had the warranty and his motor went south and Yamaha said no because the dealership said he had no oil in it. Bullshit! Mike was very meticulous about maintaining his rhino. In the end, he lost out on the warranty purchase, the old motor and the cost of the new motor. Save your money for when it comes time for a rotax or R1 swap.

I have the yes and I used it twice in 3700 miles. Once for a new fan and once for a new seal in the rear end. The dealer told me I could bring in my rhing when my rear bearings needed changed and they would do the work and submit it to yamaha but they didn't think yamaha would cover it, so I got the parts and did the work myself.. Much cheaper than having the dealer do it then get denied on the warranty. For the most part they seam to be very good and cover any needed repairs but they do not cover maintanance or wear items like break pads, tires, and probably wheel bearings...
