Do's and Don'ts for the Rhino

Guys,

Being a relative newbie with the Rhino, I thought I'd ask some Q's.

1. WOT!
My Rhino has some light mods, one of which is a Dynatec CDI. As such, it revs like a banshee when I'm on a long straight, and I'm always hesitant to get the speed going more than 45 MPH.

What's the longest you should go with the motor screaming? I never go more than 10 seconds, because instinctively, it shouldn't be screeming at 9000rpm for very long.

Am I out to lunch? Do you guys go top speed for hours on end without damage?

2. 4x4
Can 4x4 be engaged 'on the fly', or should you come to a dead stop first? How about disengaging? I've heard both ways, but want to ensure longevity.

Also, is there harm in running 4x4 for extended periods? I'm kinda old school I guess, and only use 4x4 on my trucks when I'm stuck in 2WD. As soon as I'm rolling again, it's back into 2wd. Am i nuts? Do you guys run in 4WD for long periods of time without issue?

Again - just trying to make sure I don't over-tax the machine!@

Any thoughts? more questions? Lemme know!

Long runs at WOT will eventually leave you with a hole in the cases...I slung a rod out of mine at 40 hours on a wide open run.

I have shifted on the fly but make sure you arnt under power when you doing it and I have never shifted at a high mph...Let off the gas until it shifts

I do not run mine at high rpms for a long period of time. Maybe 10 seconds or a little more. it depends on what you are doing, climbing a hill, mud hole you get the idea. If you like riding fast consider a machined sheave it will get you to 45 mph with out your motor screaming and to about 54 mph approx, top end. As far shifting into 4 wheel drive while moving, I do it when I'm going straight, with very little load on Rhino and under 10 mph. As far as running in regular 4 wheel drive while trail riding I do it all the time, In my opinion I think it takes some stress of the rear axles. Most guys that race leave it in 4 wheel drive the entire race. I rarely use 4 wheel lock/ all tires to the ground with power. This is just my two cents worth ! Also BIGGJIM is right too !

get a sheave for the clutch to drop the rpms. And a siphon break to keep the oil out of your filter box.

you can shift into 4wd as long as you let off the gas. Dont shift into Locked 4wd on the fly though. I personally ran in 4wd ALL the time, unless I was on pavement, or trying to do a donut.

I actually drag mine for 38 minutes at a time and engage 4 wheel low lockers at 63mph, 87% of all the time.

Kiddin! The guys about are accurate!!
