Two men killed riding all-terrain vehicles in El Mirage
By Stacia Glenn

Two men were killed early Sunday while riding dirt bikes and quads in a dry lake bed in El Mirage, though officials have not said whether the men were riding together.

At midnight, William Andrew Silvestre, a 37-year-old Palmdale man, was riding his Yamaha 350 quad west in the dry lake bed when he hit a berm, rolled his quad and was ejected, said coroner's officials.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:47 a.m.John Peter Sliskovich, a 25-year-old Long Beach man, was riding north in the dry lake bed on a 1940 BSA dirt bike when he hit a berm and was thrown from his bike. Sliskovich, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:11 a.m. The California Highway Patrol is investigating both accidents

RIP riders.

I have been out there at midnight with a full moon. Its quite surreal. We were testing our max speeds too. My dirtbike goes 93mph. I am sure that is enough speed to be killed.

The thing with el mirage, is it seems smooth as glass. But there are patches of weeds that develop the berms, more like mounds. A quad will loose it quick over these, and a 1940 dirtbike probably doesn't have the suspension to ride it out.

Godspeed, fellow riders.

Terrible accident, hopefully it reminds people the importance of all the safety gear you can strap on whether going ten feet or ten miles.

Missing Billy every moment!

Hello, just alil insight to what happened that night. I am the woman who was getting ready to marry that amazing man. Billy (William Andrew Silvestre) was killed that night and a large part of me died with him but, let me say this, he was wearing a helmet, he was wearing full gear. He would never ride without gear! I know this to be fact because I knew him so well, I rode with him many times, I know they returned the helmet that had been damaged in the crash and I was on the phone with him minutes before the crash happened. He was just having fun with friends and we were on the phone, I was going to be there but there was a bad sand storm that day, he set many pics over our phones of the storm so we had made up our minds that we would do a romantic camping trip when he got home instead so I stayed home, something I will always regret but I know for a fact he even took an extra helmet for me because he wanted to make sure it was there for me. He was very strict about wearing gear at all times!
We got off the phone because we had a hard time hearing eachother and then he started texting, we said goodnight and I love you's to eachother and he took off with a friend for the ride. The last text I have said "I love you" at 12:17am and they left a few minutes later, by 12:30am he had crashed and he died with friends by his side. Billy was a excellent rider and knew how to handle his quad. He had on gear but it wasn't enough, he is still gone and now myself, our family and many friends are broken hearted by the loss of his light, positive energy and love in our lives! I will never be the same without my soulmate by my side, this amazing man was so beautiful, he was the perfect example of what a real man should be and I miss his everything! I hope everyone will be careful out there, people die and those of us that love them are left wondering why such a wonderful life had to end this way! We get no wedding, we get no children together, our dreams remain undone. He did not know the other man that died there that night and I don't know any details of his sad death but I pray that his family heals soon and that time eases their pain as well. But, what does that teach us, two men that didn't even know eachother, at two different campsites at the same place, died the same way, there are lessons there and I pray that everyone will learn from this and maybe some lives can be saved and another woman won't have to feel the unreal pain that I am going through now.
Rest in peace my sweetness, my Billy, I love you, my heart will be yours for all time!

wow

It just reminds us that we are here for a while, and never know when that "while" will pass.

My heart goes out to you, may you find peace in this terrible time. Thank you for posting.
