2009 Rhino 700 only idles dies when applying gas.

* * * * * *Ok, 2/3 of today was great with the 09 rhino, hot day here in texas. I was in heavy brush area for quite awhile then broke into a clearing and step on the ole girl to cool things down a bit from the heat and slowness of thicket navigation, and then, as i stepped down on the gas, the rhino just lost power and died!*
I tried to restart it, but no luck, so, i waited a little while and tried it again and it started, but, it had a slightly quicken idle, when i went to *apply as, it died again.*
Crazy, pushing the gas pedal seemed as if i was cutting the spark and not applying gas. *
This went on the rest of the day, so, when i was able to get the rhino back home via wench and trailer, i visited the rhino forum, thinking as most would think it must be, fuel filter, etc.*

WOW! what fun it is to clean the filter on a 700 Rhino, the engineer who came up with that bright idea should stripped of all vacation pay and holidays for life! I cleaned the filter, pump etc, blew out all the hoses, drained and cleaned tank, then blew out all the fuel injection system etc, and what i got in the end was the same thing.

So, anyone out there ever have this happen to them? if so, what did u do the fix it? again, after sitting for a while it will start and idle, but as soon as you try and apply just a little gas, bang its dead, instantly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Stu

i have the stock ECU and not the MSD. I have no idea how to test the stock ECU, but did find that to reset it, just dissconnect it and /or disconnect the negative side of the battery terminal.

I just want the stock system to work, if I knew how to test the ECU, then I would know whether to replace the ECU, and certainly if it needed replaced I would upgrade to MSD or VCI.

I will tell you, the way (immediate) the rhino stalls when you mash down on the throttle would indicate that it appears it is electrical. I'm ole school carbration guy, this is new to me.

totally cleaned airfilter as well, again, mashdown on accelerator just a little bit to add just a little bit of power and it just sotps immediatly like some one pulled the plug. then turn key off, wait a little bit, a minute or so, then start it up, idles, try adding throttle and again dead stop.

Found out from trial and error that it appears to be the "Throttle Position Sensor TPI".
Would you believe that there was not one, I repeat, NOT ONE in stock at any Yamaha dealer in the State of Texas!
I guess, I shouldn't be surprised after learning today from the Largest Yamaha dealer in Houston, Texas, that they only sold two Rhinos in 2011 compared to 250 Ranger's, hummm, that's not good news.
No wonder they don't have parts for the Rhino. by the way, I did purchase the TPI from, Yamaha Parts, Yamaha Snowmobile Parts, Yamaha ATV Parts, Yamaha Motorcycle Parts, Yamaha Accessories at wholesale prices much better p[rice compared to what Yamaha quoted for an un stocked item.
