One-way bearing issue

Okay, I have been experiencing an intermittent grinding noise when the engine brake engages on downhills. Based on what I have read it has all of the symptoms of a one-way bearing issue. I have read that special crankcase oil should be used with a wet clutch driveline. Is this correct? The onset of the grinding noise coincides with the most recent oil change. I used a standard 10W30 for the change.

I would prefer not to change this bearing if it is simply a lubrication/friction issue. Can I get some insight into this?

Thanks,

Tom

Your oil should NOT have a friction modfiier in it.

if the noise comes when you apply the brakes it's the typical Yamaha issued design flaw on the 07's and prior. You have glazed over pads usually caused from accidently leaving that minature park brake lever on....do it at least once a year.

Nope, I don't use brakes It is when the engine brake engages. As far are the parking brake goes, I have wiped mine out a coupe of time from riding around with it set. I am seriously considering removing the rears.

Lots of people do the parking brake cruise, myself included.
I thought about using a hydrolic lock for parking on incline. Micro makes one .When these are locked the rhino won't move. and driving around whith it on isn't possble.
Plus You can park on steaper inclines....... and find your rhino right where you left it.

I had one of these on my truggy. They work very well. Summit sells them for around $40. Not a bad solution. You should be able to integrate one into the ignition circuit so it is automatic.

Do not use oil that has the little circle on the bottle that says "Energy Conserving". It has friction modifiers in it. Most 10/30 have this. Look at 10/40 or 15/40. Shell Rotella T is a good one in the 15/40. So does Chevron.

Also, if you are looking for a good Oil Filter other than the Yamaha, the Bosch 3323 (about $5) will work. It is a little longer than the OEM. Been runing these on my Raptor since '01 and Rhino since '07. They cross reference with a Mazda Mini Van with the V6. Other brands for the Mazda are a little shorter than the Bosch but I like having a little more filtering.
