Another R1 Engine Build....

Here is the start of my Rhino R1 Build.

Chassis: 2004 Rhino
Engine – 03 R1 Engine – Few After Market goodies: Aftermarket Headers, Muzzy Silencer, Race Harness, PC3.

Drive Train: I am going to use a rear carrier that is like a sport quad. This set-up will also have U joint plunging axles. I should be able to safely run 30-31 degrees up and 30-31 degrees down. They are machined to 38 degrees. I hope to get 20 inches of travel out of this.

Suspension: I am going to run air shocks. I may upgrade to Coil Overs later if I feel the need.
We are going to make our own a-arms. I am going to use Bung ends with Heims. I plan on making the rear and front a-arms +9.

Of course all the normals…5 points, seats, cage ect…..

This is my first time doing something like his, so feel free to jump in let me know what I could be doing wrong or any other suggestions.

Time for some pics

Engine:

The carrier I am using and U joint Axles.

Time for the build..
What I started with

rear bed off

Frame torn down part way

Just a little more grinding and the frame is clean.

Wish it would warm up outside so i could wash it lol.

Your off to great start. +9" on the LT huh? I went with +8" and everybody was making fun of me because it was so wide, Now there making kits all over the place in a 8+. You'll be happy with it wide but don't go any wider then 9+.

In the 4th and 5th pic I don't see a floor board under the drivers seat. Did you already cut that out or did the 2004 Rhino never have one?
Keep this thread updated I would love to follow along and help you out with anything I can.
Have Fun!

Greg has +9 rear and +8 front and I love how it looks. Plus the wider the more travel I get

For the floor under the seat....its covered with dirt/chunks of cat tail vines. It was not cut out yet.

It was used in a wetland area before I bought it.....Its been -20 - 20 degrees the last couple weeks. Can not wash it.

Going to pick up the tube Saturday, might start laying the first piece of tube then.

The only things I am running into are how I want to hook up the throttle cable, shifter and clutch.

been searching MBN and this site trying to find the best ideas....just not sure what I want. So many possibilities

Yoshi on minibuggy.net. It was the smallest I could find to hope it fits between the frame rails. If it don't the rear end is getting cut off and re-done

I hope to get more power to the wheels not using a diff.

Im guessing he wont have reverse. If this is being built for the dunes their really isnt any need for it. I see a ton of mini buggies with out it and they never seem to have any problems.

I will have no reverse.

Its being built for the dunes, fields and some wide trails I have around here.

I also will be able to run around on the country roads with it since in my county I just need to buy a $30 sticker for 3 years.

I have a winch off my king quad that I am putting on a plate and then I can slid it into my recevier on the Rhino.
I will then store the winch under the seat or something and if I ever get in a situation I need it I can just use the winch.

I just sold my rear diff and axles already.

The front diff is for sale and so is the connecting bars. For a arms I am not 100% sure how great the ball joints are....they seem tight.

Make me a offer, I should have all that off in a couple weeks

4" wide yokes!!! Those U-JOINTS are like 1-TON sized!!!!

Dude..... the R1 engine dosen't even make 80 Ft/Lbs of TORQUE!!!!!

Seems like an BIGTIME overkill to me.... but its your RHINO....

What do those recipricating parts weigh???

If your at 38 degrees, be prepared for some massive vibrations (at full droop or compression) with that setup...IMHO

I guess it wont break in this century tho....
